Classroom Kits

To book a Classroom Kit for your students, please fill out the request form.

The Sweetwater County Historical Museum provides Classroom Kits as a free resource for teachers and students across the county. Each Kit is aligned with Wyoming state standards across social studies, science, reading, writing, and math. Kits include hands-on activities, artifacts, lesson plans, and background information for teachers. Teachers may check out the kit for one week at a time to allow as many schools to use it as possible. For teachers booking for your whole school, this time may be extended.

Most Kits are designed for upper elementary grade levels, but teachers may adapt activities up or down to best meet their students' needs.

Education Kits Currently Available

• Dinos & Fossils
  
  • The Dinosaurs & Fossils program explores what Wyoming looked like when dinosaurs roamed the earth and walks students through the evidence that tells us these facts. They will get to see and touch real fossils. Several activities are included that use the included artifacts to teach students about dinosaurs through reading, science, and math standards.

• The Fur Trade
  • The Fur Trade program explores what life was like for mountain men trapping in Wyoming’s Rocky Mountains from the 1820s-1840s. They will get to see and touch artifacts and replicas of tools used by mountain men. The included activities use the included artifacts to teach students about the fur trade through reading, science, and math standards.

We kindly ask you to book your kit at least one week (7 days) in advance of when you want to use it in your classroom.
